Welcome to Day 14 of our Vue.js journey! Today, we’ll dive into dynamic routing in Vue.js and learn how to create nested routes. These advanced routing techniques will enable us to build more dynamic and complex applications with Vue Router.

Understanding Dynamic Routing

Dynamic routing allows us to handle routes with dynamic segments, where parts of the URL can change based on user input or other factors. This is particularly useful when dealing with dynamic content, such as user profiles, blog posts, or product details.

To define a dynamic route in Vue Router, we use a colon followed by the parameter name in the route path. Here’s an example:

const router = new VueRouter({
  routes: [
    { path: '/users/:id', component: User }
  ]
});

In this example, the :id segment in the route path represents a dynamic parameter. When the URL matches this route, the User component will be rendered, and the dynamic value of id will be available as a parameter to the component.

Creating Nested Routes

Nested routes allow us to create more complex routing structures where components are nested within each other. This is useful for building multi-level navigation or organizing related components.

To create nested routes in Vue Router, we can use the children option within a route configuration. Here’s an example:

const router = new VueRouter({
  routes: [
    {
      path: '/dashboard',
      component: Dashboard,
      children: [
        { path: 'profile', component: Profile },
        { path: 'settings', component: Settings }
      ]
    }
  ]
});

In this example, the Dashboard component serves as the parent component, and the Profile and Settings components are nested within it. When the URL matches /dashboard/profile, the Profile component will be rendered, and when it matches /dashboard/settings, the Settings component will be rendered.

Nested routes allow for more granular control over the layout and structure of our application, and they facilitate the creation of complex user interfaces.
